Overview of Danish Football.

I will write a weekly overview of Danish football and add updates through the week on significant events.

Let´s start with the top league – it´s called SAS Ligaen and the 12 clubs play 33 games. The winner goes into the Champions League whilst the second and third placed teams gain UEFA cup qualification.

The season starts in July and goes through to December. There is then a break until March and the final 15 games take the season through until May. This season, of course, is also important to many of the SAS Liga players as they will be going to South Africa for the World Cup.

After 20 games FC København are top with 43 points but are closely followed by Odense and the surprise team Esbjerg with 40 and 37 points respectively. At the bottom. Randers and Køge look doomed with just 10 and 8 points although Randers have drawn both their games since the restart so perhaps there is hope. They are still 14 points off the third from bottom FC Nordsjælland.

This week´s games sees FC København travel to Jutland for what should be a comfortable win whilst Odense and Esbjerg have trickier looking games. I expect that FC København will at least maintain their lead and with a home game against Nordsjælland next week they look in a strong position.
