The Legatum Institute’s index of prosperity 2010, a measure of material wealth and quality of life, has ranked Denmark second among 110 nations.
Legatum is an independent, non-partisan organisation that researchers and advocates for a global understanding of prosperity. The Prosperity index contains an overall assessment of a nation’s economy, conditions for entrepreneurship, governance, education, health, safe and security, personal freedom and social capital. It defines prosperity as both wealth and wellbeing. The index ranks 110 countries, according to their overall abilities to foster the drivers of prosperity.
According to Legatum Institute Denmark offers:
- A strong economy that boasts a low unemployment rate and low inflation
- Equal opportunities and a highly favorable climate for entrepreneurship
- A highly developed democracy, which encourages political participation
- High quality education at all levels of schooling
- Peaceful and stable society, which displays high levels of mutual trust
- An environment where the citizens enjoy exceptional personal freedom
Denmark has steadily advanced from a ninth spot in 2008 and a third place in 2009.
